Local Colors Festival Celebrates 35 years
The multicultural celebration kicked off with an opening ceremony and a full day of performances at Elmwood Park.
Dozens of vendor booths represented cultures from around the globe. There were also food options from 17 countries and US territories, an international beer truck, a fun children’s area, and more.
Local Colors hosts 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrat
Downtown Roanoke was filled with the sights, sounds and smells of Hispanic heritage on Saturday!
The Local Colors Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration returned to John Nolen Plaza outside the Wells Fargo building. This is the sixth year of the event.
The celebration featured dance and musical performances, lessons, and over 20 vendors, including six restaurants.
Celebration of African Cultures Returns
Back for its 4th year, the Celebration of African Cultures is returning to Roanoke, bringing the community together to experience the richness and vibrancy of African traditions.
Local Colors 2024 Spotlights South Korea
This year’s featured country is South Korea, as the city of Wonju celebrates its 60th year as “Sister City” to Roanoke.
International music and dance performers will be on the Elmwood Park stage throughout Local Colors 2024.
Spencer is excited to talk about some special visitors, “The mayor of Wonju is heading the delegation. They’re also bringing two performance teams – a traditional dance team and a K-pop group.”
The Local Colors Festival is Back!
The Local Colors festival is back in person! Festivities will look slightly different this year, but will have the same features and more to celebrate international diversity.

Pearl Fu, Longtime Leader of Local Colors, Leaving Roanoke
The longtime leader of Roanoke’s Local Colors and the city’s foremost advocate for multicultural appreciation and understanding, Pearl Fu, will move to Pennsylvania this Wednesday.
